Energy - or what exactly are "calories"?

 

Not everyone is as well off as we are. People in need need people who help! In January, we therefore supported the great and important work of the "Tafel Xanten e.V." with a food donation.

Protein is the third major nutrient that we consume in our diet, along with carbohydrates and fats. The term protein was derived from the Greek word proton for "the first, the most important thing".1 This is because protein is the basic building block of our human cells and is essential for life. Since our body has no protein store, our body cells must be regularly supplied with protein.

Omega-3 fatty acids are among the essential long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids,

without which the human body is not viable. They must be taken in with food because, unlike saturated fatty acids, our body cannot produce them itself.

The most important omega-3 fatty acids, found mainly in oily fish, are eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosapentaenoic acid (DPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Omega-3 fatty acids are found in plant and marine sources.

Everyone is talking about erythritol. After all, the substance has the same effect as sugar, only without calories, right? What erythritol can do and what advantages and disadvantages there are, you will learn in this article.

The term "MCT" covers fats with medium-chain fatty acids. These fatty acids consist of a chain length between six and twelve carbon atoms. They are digested and metabolized differently from long-chain fats (LCT). For the most part, they are already digested in the mouth and then in the stomach. Because MCT fats are also water-soluble, there is no micelle formation as with LCT fats, which is why MCT fats require neither bile to emulsify micelles nor pancreatic lipase to split fats.

Preparation:

  • Chop the KetoCrispbread, cocoa nibs, walnuts and almonds one by one in a food processor and place in a bowl.
  • Heat the KetoCacaoBar with the coconut puree and erythritol in a pan over a low heat.

First, bring the ingredients for the marinade except the tofu to a boil in a pot and simmer for 10 minutes. Cut the tofu into 5 mm thick slices and place in a small baking dish. Pour the marinade over it. Leave to marinate for about 5 hours.

In the meantime, wash the lettuce and tomatoes, peel and slice the onion. Halve, pit and peel the avocado. In a bowl, mash the avocado with a fork and mix with the squeeze of lime juice.
