Fat functions

Fat is an important nutrient for the body, which has numerous functions.

It is an important energy supplier and, at 9 kilocalories per gram, contains twice as much energy as carbohydrates or proteins.1 In addition, dietary fats serve to build cell walls and as a carrier medium for the absorption and utilization of the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. At the same time, fats are important carriers of flavor and aroma substances. Fat also protects under the skin as insulation against cold and the organs in our body as a cushion against external impacts, such as injuries.2
